Blind Driver Funkana Hits the Mark at Crackerbox Palace
The Southern Council of British Cars of NH recently gathered at Crackerbox Palace for one of the most entertaining events on our annual calendar: the Blind Driver Funkana. Perfect weather and crisp autumn air set the stage as eight members and six classic cars lined up to take on the ultimate test of driving prowess—navigating a tight figure-eight pattern around haybales while completely blindfolded.
Precision steering is tricky enough, but executing it blind takes absolute trust in your passenger. Having a sharp co-pilot proved crucial for navigating the farm course successfully (though even with a great navigator, a haybale or two still took a hit from a TR3B!).
Top honors for the day went to the team of Tim and Tristan, who posted the fastest times behind the wheel of Tristan’s MGB-GT to secure both 1st and 2nd place runs. Mike and Elliot claimed 3rd place with a spirited drive in Mike’s Triumph TR3B. Adding to the nostalgic atmosphere, a pair of vintage biplanes flew overhead during the competition, providing a rare and picturesque backdrop to the afternoon’s motor spirit.
Once the official Funkana wraps were counted, the blindfolds came off for a few unscripted bonus laps. Sliding a Triumph Spitfire sideways around the dirt corners proved to be an absolute blast, instantly earning a spot on the planned itinerary for next year’s event.
