On August 7th & 8th the Oldest Resort Town in America,Wolfeboro,NH, welcomed the members of British Cars of New Hampshire for the 14th Annual Show of Dreams to benefit the High Hopes Foundation of New Hampshire.
The “Weather Gods” smiled on The Nick Recreation Field with a perfectly beautiful weekend of warm, dry weather to entice British Car owners from all over New England and as far away as Florida and Quebec, Canada.
Saturday began at 6:30am with the show volunteers in the midst of the usual hustle and bustle of setting-up the field, all while trying to get that first cup of coffee and a quick breakfast before the show opened.
The field, looked like a construction site with crates, boxes, canopies and tables pouring out of two trailers and one full size van. Everything needed to be assembled in 2½ hours. The task was daunting, but, by 9am the LBCs, which had been lined up outside the gate since 8:30am, began their journey onto the field to their respective classes.
The show had begun with the precision of a well practiced drill team; sort of!?!
The field was bordered with a wide variety of vendors and activities from local artisans with “Made in New Hampshire Products”, to a Penny Farthing Bicycle display, to the “Wicket Cool Croquet League” playing and teaching the game of croquet. As Always, the BCNH Mega Raffle was a source of great excitement and the much loved “Clown Car” took center stage on the field for participants and spectators to guess how many balloons the set-up crew had stuffed inside.
The member/volunteers greeted spectators of all ages to the show and were pleased to see how many guests became involved with the croquet games and the chess matches taking place at opposite corners of the field.
The first day was highlighted with the BCNH Cocktail Cruise on the Winnipesaukee Belle. Our long time-friend and DJ Jim George performed his usual magic and entertained everyone on board with music to get everyone up on the floor to dance. It was a super-good time.
Sunday began with the same great weather and the annual “Breakfast on the Field” provided by “Chez Vous Catering”. As usual, the breakfast was a hit and a great start to the second day of the show.
As each breakfast guest arrived the field began to fill with British cars, but, as most of you know, Sunday is a very special day at the Show of Dreams. This is the day that we welcome the “Cars of the Continent”. At 10am, exciting examples of European engineering arrived for a “people’s choice” competition for the “Best Car of the Continent”.
The field was, once again, alive with activities. The regalia table and raffle tables were abuzz with the business of selling tee shirts, hats and raffle tickets for eye catching items to be won later in the day. The chess matches and Penny Farthing Bicycle demonstrations were in full swing and the ballots for the “Best Car of the Continent” were being cast.
At 1pm the trophies for the British Cars were awarded, the Sunday raffle was announced and let’s not forget the “Clown Car” balloon guessing game. By 3pm the 14th Annual Show of Dreams was closed with final words of “Thanks” to the sponsors, participants, volunteers and spectators for all of the continued support we have received for the Show and High Hopes.
The BCNH 14th Annual Show of Dreams will go down in the record books as a huge success. “A good time was had by all”.
